Civil Engineering (ME/MS)

It takes a lot of expertise to analyze, plan, design and build our modern world. With a master’s degree in civil engineering, you’ll be prepared to work with a range of clients and collaborators, from government agencies to private firms.

If you are interested in research, the University of South Carolina has several research centers and groups available to you, including the Structural Dynamics and Intelligent Infrastructure laboratory, the Berge laboratory for green waste management and the Advanced Railroad Technology Group.

Students have the option of either an ME (Master of Engineering) or MS (Master of Science) degree. Pursuing an MS degree requires completing a thesis.

Qualifying Undergraduate Degrees Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent in civil engineering, environmental engineering, architectural engineering, mechanical engineering or structural engineering from an accredited university.
Additional Requirements 3.0 GPA equivalent in all math course taken
Strongly Recommended: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III and Differential Equations.
Available Entry Fall or Spring Fall or Spring

*If UG degree is from an ABET Accredited institution, GRE is waived and 2.8 GPA is required.

Math Self-Evaluation

Engineering programs require a high level of math proficiency. For those programs, students will be required to complete a Math Self-Evaluation and declare that they meet the minimum proficiency standard.

Upon completion of the evaluation, fill out this Declaration Form and submit with application. 

All Engineering degree programs require a 3.0 GPA equivalent in all math courses taken.

Successful completion of English language courses, Professional Development and Analytical Skills workshops, seminars and modules.

And be accepted by a faculty thesis advisor after completing a faculty interview.*

*Students pursuing an MS degree only

Pre-Sessional English  Successful completion of all Pre-Sessional English Program course content and approval from the Master’s Accelerator team.
